Herewith, three of my favorite lines from my work in progress, in no particular order, and including only enough context for the lines themselves to make sense.
1. “It’ll be all right.”
The knife-wielding shadows in his eyes said he knew it was a lie, but neither of us admitted it.
2. I waved expansively at the jumbo-Lowell, whose back was turned; the real Lowell was probably talking to the tech guys to figure out why his holograph’s skin tone appeared purple. “Behold the glory that is the HoloView 1440, designed expressly for the ESA headquarters’ use. I hear, however, that consumer models are supposed to start rolling out next spring, so the HoloView 1440 could be installed in your own home!” Jumbo-Lowell paled from eggplant to it-could-almost-be-flesh orange. “We can only hope they’ll have the color calibration sorted out by then.”
3. Cat watching the mouse. Shark watching the baby seal. Lowell watching me.
No guarantees that all of them will stay in, of course, but right now I think the pertinent scenes are pretty solid, and all of the lines have been in the WIP long enough that I have reread and not hated them. So I think chances are decent that they will remain.
Also, a bit of housekeeping: in the next couple of weeks, I’m planning on changing domain hosts. I think I more or less understand what I need to do for it to run smoothly, but in case it doesn’t, well, you have your warning.
And another also: Happy birthday, Kelly! (You can tell Sha that if she starts reading my blog, maybe next year I’ll wish her a happy birthday on it, too. 😉 )
